Other vowel sounds
There are words with vowel patterns that do not follow the rules of phonics. Some examples include:
-words ending in -tion, -sion, and -cion normally say "shun"
-words with -ough make several different sounds
Vowels tend to break the rules, so you will most likely find many more words that are exceptions to the rules. This is when it is important to also teach sight recognition.
